History

• Around 142 AD, Marcion went to Rome. (IGC p121)
• He started giving huge sums of money to local Church leaders. (IGC p121)
• He also started teaching and became involved in the leadership of the Church. (IGC p121)
• In 144 He was expelled from the Church. (IGC p121) Apparently they stated to dislike his teachings.

• He began to put his own bible together by removing the Old Testament and 3 of the Gospels. (IGC p121)
• Now that he had his own bible, he started his own church. The Marcionite church. (IGC p121)
• His Church spread rapidly and in some areas, such as eastern Syria, it was the dominant form of Christianity. (IGC p121)

Creed

• Marcionism is a rejection of anything Jewish. (IGC p121)
• The God of the Jews is not the same as the Father of Jesus. (IGC p121)
• Their bible removes any reference to the Jewish God. (IGC p121)
• It does not include the Old Testament or the Gospels except Luke. Pauls letters were included. (IGC p121)
• The Gospel of Luke and Pauls letters were edited to remove any refrence to the Old Testament. (IGC p121)

• Marcionism uses the same organizational structure of the main stream Church with bishops, priest, and deacons. (IGC p121)
